Volunteer Programs

On behalf of our seniors and the Pender Islands Health Care Society, we would like to thank you for considering becoming a volunteer. Our Community Programs rely on the dedication of volunteers like you, and without your support, the valuable services we provide would not be accessible to those in need.

We aim to make your volunteer experience as rewarding for you as it will be for the seniors you are assisting, and we’re dedicated to improving the quality of life of older adults in our community.

With sincere appreciation,

The Community Programs Team

Please take a moment to read about ways you can participate as a volunteer.

Our volunteer programs include:

· Social Visits: By connecting with seniors for some friendly company, caring volunteers can significantly reduce feelings od isolation and loneliness, making a real difference in a senior’s life. Example include socializing over coffee or tea, or walking in their neighbourhood.

· Volunteer Drivers: Accompanying a senior to a medical or dental appointment locally or off-island.

· Phone Tree or Safety Calls: Quick daily calls to ensure safety and wellness.

· Special Events: Throughout the year, the Health Care society may participate in various special events that require the support of volunteers – such as community vaccination clinics and the Christmas luncheon.

· Monday Activity Day: In collaboration with the Southern Gulf Islands Neighbourhood House and the Community Hall, Mondays are reserved for Seniors’ programs at the Community Hall. There are a variety of ways to help at the Hall that provide opportunities for social connection, friendship, and belonging.
