Almost every cell in our bodies contains a copy of the genome, which contains all the info a body needs to grow and develop. Dr. Paré, a member of the Health Care Society board of directors, explains it all much more thoroughly than we can do here.

Talk #2: Everything You Need to Know about Type 2 Diabetes with Dr. Greg Bondy, April 23, 2023.

Dr. Greg Bondy provides lifestyle measures such as diet and exercise to help manage the disease, as well as newer, safer medications that help prevent renal and heart disease in diabetics. As he says, “It used to be that when I would tell someone they had diabetes, I would take ten years off their life expectancy. With newer medications and lifestyle measures, this is no longer the case.”

Talk #3: Cardiovascular Disease in Women with Dr. Karin Humphries, November 8, 2023.

Heart disease claims the life of one in five women, yet remains under-diagnosed and under-treated. Why is this? Learn about cardiovascular disease in women, how you can understand and reduce your risk factors (no matter what your age!) and how to work with your health care providers to maintain heart health.

Dr. Park is the regional medical director for Home Health with Fraser Health Authority and a practicing family physician. She provides medical direction for the Home and Community Care program to support and help clients to live independently at home for as long as possible.

Dr. Anne-Marie Nicol teaches in the areas of Human Risk Assessment & Toxicology for Public Health and Risk Communication, and is the Principal Investigator of Canada's national carcinogen surveillance program. She is also the lead in the BC Lung Foundation's BREATHE project. Her fascinating talk shares data about airborne particulate matter and information about how to construct an effective and inexpensive residential air cleaner.
