Activity Day Assistant (OPEN)

We are seeking a reliable and enthusiastic individual to assist the Community Connector with the Monday Activity Day at the Community Hall. The assistant will be customer service oriented, perform some cleaning duties, set up tables, chairs and other supplies for program activities, run the coffee and tea service, lead trail walks, attend meetings, perform light administrative tasks, and assist where needed and as requested by the Community Connector.

Custodian Lead, PT (CLOSED DEC 2025)

Custodial staff play an important role in infection control and are responsible for keeping the Pender Island Health Centre tidy, clean, and free of dirt, dust, and pathogens harmful to the staff and public. They are often the first to become aware of issues affecting the building. Custodian work will be performed outside of business hours (after 5 pm and before 8:30 am) daily Monday through Friday, and on a limited basis over the weekend. Custodian work may be a shared position between two parties, with on-call casual support. Custodian staff work together to ensure shifts are covered for holiday and sick time.

Exercise Instructor, PT, Permanent and Casual (OPEN)

Experienced instructors provide weekly exercise classes tailored to enhance flexibility, build strength and improve balance—with a strong emphasis on fall prevention. The Exercise Instructor will answer to the PIHCS Program Coordinator. PIHCS Program Coordinator will work with the Exercise Instructor to confirm a date and time for the class. The exercise instructor will need to host the class and collect drop in fees. An envelope will be provided prior to the start of class, which will include a sign up sheet and fees paid, as well as a list of subcontractors the Exercise Instructor will call if they are unable to teach their class due to illness or family emergency. The Exercise Instructor must follow up with the Program Coordinator regarding any changes made. PIHCS Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the space rental, promotional materials, advertising, and class registrations. They also support the Exercise Instructor in resolving any problems that arise, including workplace hazards or concerns around safety issues. PIHCS covers the cost of the hall rental, WCB and additional program insurance. Renumeration is $50.00 per class.

Medical Office Assistant, Casual, PT, FT (CLOSED OCT 2025)

Medical Office Assistants are responsible for providing day-to-day administrative support services to Island Health and the Ministry of Health medical providers and their patients. As an integral part of the medical clinic team, the Medical Office Assistant (MOA) will greet patients, answer phone calls, and maintain accurate electronic medical records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with regulations.

VOLUNTEER - Income Tax preparation (OPEN FALL 2025)

This is a collaboration between Beacon Community Services (BCS) and Pender Islands Health Care Society (PIHCS). Volunteers register with BCS and low-income seniors sign up for the program through PIHCS. The Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) has existed since 1971 and is a longstanding partnership between the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and community organizations and their volunteers. Volunteers may meet clients in person at the health centre, or complete taxes through virtual clinics by videoconference, by phone, or through a drop-off clinic. CRA recommends volunteers register/renew starting the fourth week of October to be ready for tax season . The CRA recommends volunteers register early to prevent delays and ensure you don’t miss important information. However, we are accepting appicants at any time throughout the year.
