Why Your Donation Matters

Your support helps us facilitate access to quality health and wellness care for all Pender Islanders and contributes to a healthier community.
We rely on your donations to continue serving our community.
Our funding sources are restricted. Property tax funds can’t be used for capital projects or primary health care. Grant funding is project-specific, and government support for overhead is limited. Many programs depend on annual funding applications, making your donation essential in bridging these gaps.
With an aging infrastructure and a building nearing capacity, capital upgrades like improved safety, accessibility, modern security, fire suppression, and freshwater systems are not only necessary but required by increasingly stringent regulations.
As a donor, you’re part of a long history of community generosity:
Late 1970s: Medical care was delivered from a local doctor’s house. After years of requests by the Pender Island Lions Club, the province agreed to help, but islanders were required to provide the land, plans, materials, labour, equipment and furnishings.
1979-80: The BC government contributed $85,000, the Marler family donated land, and the community raised $60,000 to begin construction with volunteer labour.
1981: The Health Centre opened.
1989: The Ambulance Station was built.
1994: The East Wing was added.
2007-08: The Pender community raised $700,000 for an expansion, the CRD added $600K and Island Health contributed $142K.The Centre was almost doubled in size.
2020-21: Faced with rising operational costs and aging infrastructure, the community approved a referendum for property tax funding. This funding remains critical, but cannot be used for capital expenses or primary health care.
Your donation helps us maintain, improve, expand and modernize the Health Centre, and to continue to provide vital community programs. It’s a meaningful way to give back, and is so very much appreciated.
Donations are tax-deductible. Please consider making a donation today - a single gift, a monthly or annual contribution, or a legacy gift in your will.
You have our sincere thanks.
