Peter Paré, Board Member
Peter earned his medical degree from McGill University in 1969 and is currently Emeritus Professor of Medicine and Pathology in the Faculty of Medicine at UBC. He was the UBC Respiratory Division head and training program director (1983-94), interim Head of the Department of Medicine at St Paul’s Hospital (1992-93), director of the James Hogg Centre for Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Research (2000-2005), and Program Director of the Clinical Investigators Program for UBC’s Faculty of Medicine. Peter served as President of the Canadian Thoracic Society and was on the Board of the BC Lung Association for more than 20 years, six years as Chair. He is the recipient of the Jacob Churg Distinguished Researcher award and is a Michael Smith Distinguished Scholar.
He and his wife Lisa Baile, also a lung researcher, bought property on Pender in 1980 and built a log home. Peter is on the board of Moving Around Pender, and a past member of the boards of the Southern Gulf Island Community Resource Centre and the Pender Island Arts Society. He and Lisa also hike, ski and kayak.
As Peter says, “Health Care is a vital service on the islands given our relatively remote setting and demographics. I look forward to bringing my experience in health care and grant writing to support the Society.”
