George Fowlie, Board Member

With a BA from the University of Toronto and an MBA from the University of Western Ontario, George began what became a 40+ year career in banking & finance with a focus on mid-sized, private companies, often managed by entrepreneurs.

He and his wife Susan celebrated their 57th Anniversary in 2025 and have two children, Meredith and Jonathan, each of whom has two children. Jonathan lives in Vancouver and has a cabin in Magic Lake, which is how George came to know Pender. Meredith and her family live in California, so they are not too far away. The opportunity to live closer to them both was what inspired George to make the move to Pender from Ontario in 2020.

George first got involved in the not-for-profit sector at the local community level with activities such as hockey, baseball and soccer and when his children moved on from those activities he continued being active with other organizations. Ten of his 15 years with Outward Bound was as Chairman of Outward Bound Canada. His involvement in the health care sector includes Heart & Stroke, the Canadian Partnership for Stroke

Recovery, and more recently Kids Help Phone.

He has extensive Board of Director experience in public and private companies as well as not-for-profit organizations. He is currently chair of the board of Pender Island Recreation and Agriculture Association (PIRAHA) and the Otter Bay Arts & Media Society.

George is honored to be a member of the Board of the Pender Islands Health Care Society and hopes to contribute his experience toward achieving the PIHCS Vision of quality, accessible healthcare and wellness support for the Pender Islands community.
