Bruce Waygood, President

Bruce came to Canada from the UK in 1963 and obtained a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Microbiology at the University of Manitoba, followed by a Ph.D. in Medical Biophysics in 1974 at the University of Toronto, where he met his wife, Kate. He went on to Johns Hopkins University before joining the Biochemistry Dept at the University of Saskatchewan Medical College in 1977, where he worked for 30 years. In the last 7 years of his tenure, he held the position of University Coordinator of Health Research, with province-wide responsibilities for the University of Regina and First Nations University of Canada.

Bruce was the co-founder of the Nutana Residents Association that led the City of Saskatoon to modernize its zoning for all older neighbourhoods; organized seven successful election campaigns for Kate as a City Councillor; and lobbied Ottawa on science funding issues.

Since coming to Pender in 2006, he has served six years previously on the PIHCS Board, and then 2 years as Past-President. He is currently Commodore of Pender Island Junior Sailing Association and Race Captain for the Pender Island Yacht Club. He has a large garden that keeps him busy.
